YOUTH PARTICIPATION
We want to involve the younger members of our community while ensuring their safety. COVID put a pause on our junior events, but Lake Esmond welcomes young athletes 12 -18 (with some safety precautions)!
Here's how to join the fun:
-
Safety first for first-timers (12-17): Before registering, we need to ensure a safe experience for everyone. Here's what you'll need to do:
-
Show us your swim skills: Submit your swim time for a 400-meter distance. OR
-
Been there, done that. If you have experience in triathlons with open water swimming and open road cycling, provide evidence of past participation.
-

-
Start with a shorter distance: Newcomers will begin with a shorter race to ease into the competition.
-
Bike Skills to be assess before open road racing Bring both a mountain bike (for inside the park on gravel track riding) and a road bike (if you have one). After the race, an experienced member will take you on a short trial ride on the road bike to assess your readiness for future open-road events with the club.
-
Wetsuits are a must! This is mandatory for all junior athletes participating in the open water swim.
Still curious? No problem! You and your child are welcome to come and watch an event to see how it all works before diving in.
